SIMON STEEN-ANDERSEN: INSZENIERTE NACHT
with ENSEMBLE ASCOLTA
“Inszenierte Nacht” is a performance incorporating famous pieces by Bach, Schumann, Mozart und Ravel with a nocturnal theme. The Danish composer Simon Steen-Andersen employs his own musical methods in his approach towards the selected historical pieces of music and adapts them in the manner of a theatre director creating a “new production”, thereby modernising and reinforcing the inherent conceptual elements and structures to liberate them from their musealised corset. Steen-Andersen is one of the most original composers of the younger generation and has received numerous commissions from major festivals for contemporary music during recent years. As in many of his other compositions, his musical work on “Inszenierte Nacht” also verges into theatrical territory, addressing both aural and optical fields.
The Ensemble ascolta, founded in 2003 with a focus on brass and percussion instruments, treads new paths within the ensemble landscape. The group also made a guest appearance at the KunstFestSpielen 2011 with their film concert “Un Chien Andalou”.
