MNOZIL BRASS: HOJOTOHO - EINE WAGNER-BLECH-COMEDY
In celebration of Richard Wagner’s bicentenary this year, they have decided to present the composer with a new opera. As director, they have succeeded in recruiting no less a personage than Philippe Arlaud who has already staged a production of “Tannnhäuser” in Bayreuth. The seven multi-talented members of Mnozil Brass additionally take the stage as actors and dancers. They vigorously blow the dust off Wagner’s works and play around with the motifs of his operas, twisting, turning and shaking them to discover previously hidden links to waltz, polka, tango and Jewish music in Wagner’s music. The evening is ambitiously devoted to the original creation of a revolutionary “gesamtkunstwerk” consisting of brass, dance and comedy – and also the establishment of an entirely new music theatre genre: “hojotoism”.
