JAN LAUWERS & NEEDCOMPANY: THE HOUSE OF OUR FATHERS
Lauwers went on to create “The House Of Our Fathers” on the basis of his findings. Intermittently, a silent memento mori is created and then the space becomes populated by dancers, actors and musicians attempting to process what they have seen in their own individual fashion through improvisation. Naturally, not everything functions perfectly, but it is specifically the gaps between “processing” and the “exhibition” which are of greatest interest. Spectators are free to stay for hours or just a few minutes. As “The House Of Our Fathers” goes well beyond the scope of theatre works and installations, it cannot be categorised under any of the established artistic forms. The contemplation of time, memories and “history” – both personal and supra-personal – therefore becomes the essential focal point of this colourful project.
